28 days

porcelain, cyanotype, sunlight, mineral oil

Each porcelain ring is a physical record of the passing of time on an individual day.

The 28 rings are created by hand by the artist before being coated with a photosensitive solution which turns blue in daylight, the colour deepening with the intensity of the sun.

A clock mechanism and adjoining cover exposed only a small area of the ceramic ring to the daylight at any time, slowly rotating to expose the full ring, hour-by-hour, from sunrise. The result is a full twelve-hour record of the shifting light over the duration of each day.

This work is a physical record of days that have passed and cannot be experienced again. It is a documentation of a shift in seasons and of time quietly passing. The work is is made in connection with both the sun and the moon, the period of recording encompassing a full lunar cycle.

The rings were made in the period from 8th April - 5th May 2024.
